THE cars ranged from the extravagant to the outrageous, including one with beautiful ladies painted on the body to another with TV screens in the wheel hubs.
It was all on show at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre on the weekend when Auto Salon automotive show rolled into town. There were more than 150 late-model modified cars, some valued at more than $300,000.Personalised number plates and a custom paint job were must-haves but it took something special to set a car apart from the crowd. Darryl Leehmus, of Sydney, was crowned King of the event for his red Holden Rodeo which had a chrome engine and could be fully lowered to sit on the ground. His win entitles him to compete at the national titles this year.
